Formation of the Company
and of the Company onto the Color Line

Manner of Forming the Company
1. The first sergeant will assemble the company in the company area and command: Fall In – Company.
2. At this command the corporals and privates will form one rank, faced to the right, and in order of height from right to left, the tallest man on the right and to the left to the shortest man. The other sergeants will take posts two steps to the right of the company as file-closers.
3. Once the men are in place the first sergeant will command: Front.
4. The second sergeant will now place himself on the left of the company and the first sergeant will command: In Two Ranks, Form Company. Left Face. March.
5. At the command Left Face, the whole company will face left except the second sergeant and the man on the left, who stand fast.
6. At the command March, the men will step off together; the second man, counting from the left, will place himself in the rear rank behind the man next to the second sergeant and face to the front. The next two men will step up in like manner – the first to the front rank and the second man t the rear rank.
7. The first sergeant will then post himself on the right of the company and command: Right Dress. Once the company is dressed on the first sergeant, the officers take their posts. Once the companies are formed, the companies of the right wing face toward the right flank of the camp. The companies of the left wing face in the reversed direction.
8. At the hour of the formation the captain gives the command – Attention Company. Shoulder Arms. Right (or left) Face.
9. The adjutant will halt on the color line; station the guides and markers for the formation of the color company, so that the color sergeant will be exactly at the center of the battalion.
10. The instant the adjutant arrives at the color line, the captains will give the command – Forward March.
11. They will move their companies on to the line, the color company moving a little in advance.
12. The right guides of the right company and the left guides of the left company throw themselves onto the line with the color company the moment their companies halt.
13 .The guides will remain in front of their companies until the adjutant gives the command – Guides Post.
